Male nurses belong to an important and special group that is currently active in the frontline of clinical nursing. On the one hand, they have gradually become the badly-needed talents of medical and health units due to their distinctive gender advantage, while on the other hand, it has become increasingly prominent that male nurses’ occupational satisfaction is low, career life is short, and separation rate keeps increasing. Career planning education of the nursing student stage exerts essential influence on the future career development. It is necessary to reflect the school’s career education so as to effectively reduce the turnover rate of male nurses. In literature review, most researches are concerning career planning of college students, but little research has been done regarding the career planning of male nurses of secondary vocational education. With secondary vocational education as the starting point of nursing degree education, this paper studies the current status of career planning of male nurses of secondary vocational education and explores the countermeasures of school education, which has practical significance in stabilizing the male nursing team, enhancing nursing quality and improving nursing education.This paper combs and analyzes the theory and practice research on career planning at home and abroad, and on this basis, it carries out research and analysis of the career status of male nursing students of a secondary medical professional school through the questionnaire survey method and interview method. The research result shows that: the current status of career planning of male nursing students of secondary vocational education as a whole is general. From the perspective of five basic dimensions, "self assessment" gets the highest score while "self planning" gets the lowest score. The level in recognizing and accepting the career has been enhanced to some extent, the blindness of major selection has been reduced but there exists one-sided understanding; employment drive is obvious, but career stability is insufficient; they are facing the reality of weak employment competitiveness, prominent vocational anxiety, and difficult career development: they have a weak awareness of career, and their ability of career planning is poor. The career planning of senior male nursing students is better than that of junior students. The psychological capital of Grade One male nursing students is higher, but they have the tendency of being too subjective and unrealistic, the cognition of career of Grade Two male nursing students is maturer, but they maintain a poor performance in the aspect of self-efficacy and optimism level, and reveal hesitation and anxiety evidently, the elasticity of their career beliefs is even greater, and career stability is even worse. Meanwhile, it is found that male nursing students have weak psychological and behavioral abnormalities while they are affected by the disadvantages in the gender and number, and there is no significant effect on the status of career planning as well.According to the research result, this paper puts forward corresponding countermeasures for school career education: to solve five major drawbacks in the career education of school, clearly define the basic tasks in the career education of male nurses of secondary vocational education, attach great importance to environmental assessment of nursing occupation and professional development, establish the identity of gender role and professional role of male nursing students.
