The Mathematics Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education provides for the targets and requirements regarding problem solving. Among which “problems solving” is in fact “solving problems”(formerly known as word problems) and plays an important role in mathematics teaching and learning of primary school students. Therefore, how to get better effect in teaching and learning “solving problems” is of much importance. However, learning to solving simple mathematics problems for primary school students of lower grades lays the ground for primary school students of higher grades to learn well to solve complex problems, and thus is of much more importance. The primary students of lower grades always make various simple mistakes in learning “solving problems” due to their young age, which reduces the effectiveness of teaching and learning. Meanwhile, many teachers always focus on multi-media teaching rather than combining with the traditional teaching methods, which confuses the students learning instead and results in that the students have poorer practical ability, less communication with the teachers, and have emotions of fear and resistance against solving problems as time passes, and this appears more obvious when they become higher grades primary students. In view that multi-media-aid teaching and traditional teaching both have their own advantages and disadvantages, the thesis aims at how to help the primary students of lower grades well learn “solving problems” through well combining the multi-media-aid teaching methods with traditional teaching methods.Adopting documentation method, interview method and observation method this thesis researches the teaching process of mathematics “solving problems” courses for primary school students of grades one and two at Chengmian Lu Primary School, Mianyang City based on the interview with some frontline teachers and students, comparing the experimental class and the ordinary class. The content of this study includes four chapters as follows: the first chapter mainly introduces the research background, keywords definition, the advantages and disadvantages of traditional teaching methods and multimedia courseware, the present research situation of mathematics “solving problems”, the thought and methods of this research. The second chapter mainly introduces the survey and analysis of the mathematics “solving problems”, gives a concrete exposition on the teaching features, requirements, and processes for the “solving problems” teaching based on the analysis and interview with some frontline teachers and students. The third chapter mainly introduces how to combine the multimedia courseware with traditional teaching methods in mathematics teaching. The fourth chapter mainly presents in details the teaching strategies of how to combine the multimedia courseware with traditional teaching methods in mathematics teaching through the specific teaching case Preliminary Understanding of Multiplication, and conducts the analysis of effectiveness. The fifth chapter presents summary and expectation of this research. This thesis believes that combining the multimedia courseware with traditional teaching methods in mathematics teaching can better benefit the students’ development in solving problems.
