The Community Work Involved In Promotion Of Family Caregivers’ Resilience

In recent years, mental disability has gradually become the main form of children with disabilities,many families are suffering from the pain of having mental handicapped children,the society still look more confined to mental handicapped children themselves, and take mentally their family caregivers as problematical group, ignoring the inherent in its ability to cope with adversity,which is resilience.The article is based on the theory of strength perspective,it chooses six mental handicapped children’s family caregivers in nanjing X community as the object of study,we know their plight in life,the status,question and causes of resilience through in-depth interview and questionnaire survey.According to the survey,their plight in life mainly comes from the economic, family, community and society; their resilience is consisted of inner and external protection factors, the former concludes the good internal quality,ability of problem solving and emotion management,social competence,the later concludes influence of peer groups, meaningful social participation and the development of social relation network;Through interview and questionnaire analysis, summing up their problems in resilience as follows:firstly, their social participation is not enough, secondly, neighbors and peer group support for them is not enough,thirdly, the community can’t create a care environment for them;In the final,analyse the cause of the problem, including individual differences, the outside world prejudice on them, the lack of resources integration and lack of professional social workers in community.In order to solve these problems, social worker adopts the method of community work, on the theory of social system Empowermen,to carry on the interventionon on the base of community work plan, the community scheme includes three parts, the first is the community of classroom, aimed at resolving their problem of insufficient community participation, to improve the group’s attitude and enhance the will of the community participation; secondly, the theatre over the weekend, in the form of situational simulation, let the participants know the importance of neighbors and friends for them, and learn the content and way of support; Finally is the "have your accompanion" community square publicity activities, to improve the external negative impression of mentally retarded children, to strengthen the community’s understanding of mentally retarded children’s family caregivers and strengthen community’s publicize to build the community care environment, to strengthen community support. In addition, the author summarized the use of community work skills in practice, including supporting techniques, like the heart, encourage and listening; Community organization skills, such as the establishment of internal communication mode, deal with crisis and problem of members; Administrative skills, such as planning skills and the development of community relations skills.The article evaluate the intervention effect of community work,according to data,the problems like the insufficient in community participation, the insufficient in neighbors peer group support for mental handicapped children’s family caregiver, the insufficient in community’s care environment for them have been improved, and the external resilience level obtained.Finally,workers reflect on the intervention. All in all, the article provides a new perspective for the service of mental handicapped children’s family caregiver, riches the practice in the field.
