Although Chinese sports team has got grandeur achievements in international competitions, a great many athlete has to retire after each event and start a completely new life out of sports field. As the number of retired athletes increases and this group grows, now their re-employment has become a hot issue of social concern. Restricted by their kinds of limitations and social circumstances, retired athletes often have to suffer the conflict between expectations and reality, entrepreneurial incompetence and the lack of social network support, which negatively affect their daily life, work and social life. However, the halo of past success leads them into a "silent dilemma". Therefore, the intervention of retired athletes’dilemmas becomes urgent and necessary. The two cases selected in this study are true experiences of professional athletes from Jiangsu Province. Therefore this research focused on the problems of the two subjects in order to help them out of dilemmas with the assistance of the Jiangsu Province Sports Bureau Training Center by mobilizing and integrating external resources. In this paper,we discuss the intervention in the form of case studies from the view of social workers.During the study, the author maintained a one-to-one professional follow-up with each subject and applied professional skills in order to improve the living environment of retired athletes, enhance their adaptations to social competitions, construct benign mutual relations, induce them to better self adjustment, promote their character improvement and encourage them to take more methods and measures to get involved in social life. In this paper, the author intervened in client-service mode with mature mentality and solved kinds of difficulties by developing own potentials and making good use of all resources and opportunities to help clients solve their dilemmas and enhance both their self-confidence and living quality. The social work intervention for these two cases have achieved relatively good results as the main difficulty has been solved to some extent. However, social work is a dynamic process. Thus the process itself is an exploration. Therefore, the intervention of social work deserves further reflection.
