Junior English Coursebook GO FOR IT, which is published in 2005, has been promoted for nearly 10 years. The implement of this teaching materials last long. And this teaching material is widely used, and well received in urban areas and the eastern coastal areas of china. As a grass-root English teacher in western China, the author finds that there are lots of difficulties during the implement of this teaching material in western China. Thus, the author selected four junior schools in the suburbs of the Xi’an, which is one of the center cities in western China, namely Xi’an 34th middle school, Xi’an 51th middle school, Xi’an 19th middle school, and Xi’an 64th middle school. The teachers and students in these schools are respondents in the investigation, questionnaire and interviewing are investigation method. The investigation last around 1month, and After investigation, the author found that the adaptability of teachers and students in the region is low, which mainly manifested in the following aspects:firstly, the design of teaching activities is rich and colorful, but fails to satisfies the need of people in western rural areas; Secondly, there are too many new words in the coursebook, which is far from students’daily lives so that students are not easy to master; Thirdly, the teaching material is beneficial to the development of the learning strategies, but it demands students’ higher abilities, therefore many poor students are difficult to adapt to; Fourth, the coursebook has a teaching reference, but the form is single, lacks information points, does not favor the teacher prepares a lesson well; Fifth, illustrations are arcane.Without effective guidance of teachers, students are hard to understand the meaning of the illustrations. Lastly, the quality of teaching material is common. Both teachers and students say the teaching materials often lack pages and has printing problems. As grass-root English education workers, the author also should improve the professional quality constantly, study the teaching material deeply, use the materials better.
