The general objective of English curriculum in senior high school is to enable students to make sense of the purpose of learning English on the basis of compulsory education, develop self-learning and cooperative learning ability; form effective English language learning strategies; cultivate students’ability to use English comprehensively. The forming of comprehensive ability to use language should be based on the integration of language skills, language knowledge, attitudes, learning strategies and cultural awareness. Among them, emotions and attitudes are important factors affecting students’ learning effect and personality development. Good emotions and attitudes are beneficial for students to learn and develop. However, over a long period of time, we have spent too much effort on teaching and learning language knowledge and improving language skills for the existing of deep-rooted examination-oriented education and leading role of College Entrance Exam. What’s worse, owing to the differentiation of traditional school moral education which is made by the government, some teachers are appointed to specialize in moral education, while others are not. The others often only concentrate on knowledge in their field and overlook their own moral responsibility, ignore the moral function of English course, and also ignore the students’inner reflection and emotional needs. Not only the effect of school education is negatively affected, but also the unique moral function of English teaching is limited. Last but not least, English teachers don’t play well in guiding students’ values.Moral education is an integral part of school education. It lies in all aspects of teaching. High school English teaching should focus on the combination of moral and intellectual education. It is the inherent requirement of education. Ministry of Education of PRC once publish Basic Education Curriculum Reform (Trial) (2001), making it clear that the specific objectives of basic education curriculum reform was to change the tendency of putting too much emphasis on imparting knowledge in teaching, and emphasize the cultivating of active learning attitude. So while obtaining the basic knowledge and skills, students could learn how to study well and develop correct moral values. As one of the humanities, English can be a tool for communication. It can also convey many ideologies. English contains lots of moral factors. Especially abundant English reading materials has a wide range of topics, which makes it easier to infiltrate the moral education in every aspect of high school English teaching activities. It is good for English teachers to fulfill moral education responsibility. It is also good to make the hidden curriculum in English work well in moral education. These transitions can not only help make up the shortage of the traditional moral education in schools but also promote the implementation of quality-oriented education and the all-round development of students.In this paper, the theoretical bases and guiding ideologies are second language acquisition theory, relevant moral education theories and some national documents on basic education reform. By using the relevant questionnaire and studying literature, and combining our own teaching practice, we try to show the present situation of moral education infiltration in senior high school English reading teaching. We expect to analyze the inefficiency of moral education infiltration in English teaching. Then we further discuss the necessity, methods and principles of raising moral awareness and cultivate moral emotion in English reading teaching. In this paper, we provide a real English reading teaching case, in which we use some specific teaching methods, including some moral education methods. Taking account of the nature and characteristics of the high school English teaching, we fully exploit the moral resources within textbooks. Meanwhile, by infiltrating moral education into daily classroom teaching on English reading, we verify the feasibility of these moral education methods in English discipline.We are hopeful that through the integration of relevant teaching theory and moral education theory, school leaders and English teachers can pay more attention to moral education in English discipline. Besides, Teachers’ theoretical attainment can be also improved. We also wish English teachers can develop their own scientific and effective ways to infiltrate moral education into English teaching practice in order to achieve the purpose of both teaching and cultivating students.
