Immersion programs involve students in target language by using target language as an instructional tool. Studies have shown that students’ abilities of the second language and native language in immersion programs were obviously higher than that of the other teaching mode. With the continued success of the current Chinese immersion programs throughout the United States, more and more American elementary schools offer Chinese immersion programs. In this situation, more Chinese immersion teachers are needed, and the teaching practice also need the corresponding theoretica l support. Excluding the first chapter which is the introduction, this paper is divided into the following parts:The second Chapter is about theories of child language acquisition. This chapter mainly introduces the children’s first and second language acq uisition theories and comparison of children’s first language and the second language acquisition. This C hapter lays the theoretical foundation for the following study in children’s Chinese language immersion.The third chapter analyses the development and present situation of the primary school Chinese immersion in the US. This chapter introduces the development of C hinese teaching in elementary schools in the United States, development and all kinds of modes of immersion teaching. At the same time, this c hapter analyses the current development of Chinese immersion teaching in elementary schools in the United States, and finds the problems in the immersion program.This chapter gives suggestions of Chinese teaching in C hinese immersion progrom in the U.S. elementary school. This chapter combined with the theories of child language acquisition and analysis of the present immersion teaching in elementary schools in the United States, and offers some suggestions on C hinese teaching for C hinese immersion teachers including preparation before class, the teaching of commonly used oral language in class, the teaching of C hinese while teaching curriculum knowledge, immersion classroom management, classroom decoration and afterschool activities. According to these suggestions, readers could have a whole grasp and understand in Chinese immersion program.In the conclusion part, the paper puts some suggestions for the immersion teachers to be considered in Chinese immersion teaching.
