In our country, Chinese textbooks which used in high school select various styles of foreign literature works besides various styles of Chinese literature. The foreign literature which have unique artistic charm infect with Chinese students perfect their knowledge structure, broaden their horizons. It is an important part of Chinese teaching that cannot be ignored. But in the actual language teaching, the situation of foreign literature teaching is not optimistic. Many factors restrict or hinder the development of foreign literature teaching. There are several problems in foreign literature teaching such as its marginalization, lagged situation because of teachers’ quality lacking and students’ low learning enthusiasm. These problems make foreign literature teaching stays in an unsatisfied situation.The author taking the high school language compulsory textbooks which published by PEP(2007 edition) as chief source and combining with teaching practice, make a beneficial attempt for foreign literature teaching in high school. This thesis is divided into five parts: The introduction put forward the problem. It introduces the research status of foreign literature teaching in high school, the topic and the methods of study. Based on The Ordinary High School Language Curriculum Standard(experiment) which published in 2003, the second chapter analyzes the standard’s guidance and demands for foreign literature teaching in high school, in order to make a clear foreign orientation for foreign literature teaching in high school. The third chapter analyzes the current situation of foreign literature teaching in high school and its problems by using interview and questionnaire with teachers. The fourth chapter discusses the teaching strategies which are divided by different kinds of styles for foreign literature teaching in high school. The conclusion summarizes the content of thesis. It is hope that this study will arouse the recognition of foreign literature teaching in high school and strengthen the research in this field.
