Mathematics is the gymnastics of thinking, and it can cultivate people’s language skills, numeracy skills, spatial ability, memory ability, abstract thinking, reasoning ability, perceptual ability, and many other skills. It can develop students ’spirit of creation and skills of practice, promote students’ attitudes, values and emotional development.Learning mathematics can not be separated from the mathematical reading. The curriculum standard for compulsory education in2011 Edition emphasized training students’ mathematics reading ability, application ability, research ability and many other abilities, and clearly considered mathematics reading as a kind of learning method. Mathematics reading is based on mathematics materials and mathematical thinking, with the purpose of understanding. It is about screening and absorption of reading information, integrating the information with existing knowledge and experience, restructuring and transforming it into a unique psychological meaning. Mathematics reading is not only a kind of practical activity, but also a kind of intelligence skill.Eight classes of grade two which were randomly selected in two middle schools in Changsha were investigated. 495 questionnaires and test volumes were distributed, and 480 effective questionnaires and test volumes were returned.Survey and statistical results show that many students think mathematics reading and mathematics reading ability are needed in the process of learning mathematics, but they have no idea about how to read mathematics, especially scientific and effective reading the textbook of mathematics and mathematical problems. Because the school did not open the system of reading methods of training courses, Mathematics teacher also does not regard the mathematics reading ability training as the teaching goal. So,how to cultivate students’ mathematical reading ability in teaching will be the main research goal. This article will discuss how to cultivate students’ mathematical reading ability from two aspects of mathematics textbooks and mathematical problems. For how to cultivate the reading ability of mathematics textbook, this paper first introduced the characteristics of junior high school mathematics textbook, including the content characteristics, the layout characteristics and style characteristics. Then, it introduces the strategies of readingmathematics textbooks, including marker annotation method, language translation method, analogy reading method, operating reading method, careful investigation of the reading method, and question reading method. Then, according to the order of the contents of mathematics textbook, with a specific example, this paper introduces how to read the guide part of the textbook, the contents and the chapter content, and according to the introduction, "thinking" inquiry "summary" section, conclusion and examples with an example introduces the specific method of reading of the chapters. As how to cultivate the reading ability of mathematics problem, according to Polya’s theory of problem solving, this paper has made the reading steps. The first step is to read the math problem, filter the effective information. The second step is to read information effectively and thoroughly understand the problem. The third step is to restructure the information and make a plan for solving the problem. The fourth step is to review and think about the problem solving process and accumulate the experience of reading problems. Then, from two angles of applied- problems of mathematics and reading comprehension questions of mathematics, this paper introduces the method of reading the mathematical problems and list theconcrete examples.
