This study, based on the teaching practice of educational technology and philosophy at our campus, introduces in due time the discussion-based teaching to the traditional lecture-based teaching process, which will guide the student to turn gradually from the formerly passive learning to active learning. In view of the current research bottlenecks on discussion-based teaching, this study, aligning with the rapid development of social software in the network era, and by dint of the implementation of the social-software-supported discussion-based teaching, attempts to break through the bottleneck on the development of the discussion-based teaching and to solve the problem of the less-than-ideal results of theory-based teaching.First, this study analyzes the shortcomings of the development of discussion-based teaching and summarizes them into three aspects: the lack of pre-discussion preparation will result in an inadequate depth into the discussion; there is no systematic operating norms of teaching process to refer to, which will lead to the disorder of the entire process of discussion; limitation on class hour gives rise to the inefficient post-discussion communication of ideas and experience and so on. At the same time, this study fully analyzes and summarizes the learning function of social software, and presents the hypothesis that social software can support the implementation of discussion-based teaching as to the objective problem of “limitation on class hour”. And moreover, this study intends to take QQ group as an example to carry out a practice research on the curriculum of educational technology and philosophy.Then, this study starts with the four elements of discussion-based teaching activities—discussion materials, discussion topics, participants and counsellors—to analyze the design procedures of the discussion topics and to discuss the method of selecting discussion materials. In light of the learning procedures, this research divides the discussion-based teaching into three stages: the pre-discussion preparations, the face-to-face symposium and the summary of the post-discussion communication. This study carries out an in-depth analysis of each stage of the discussion-based teaching, designs detailed implementation links, and works out a systematic implementation plan.Finally, this study, taking QQ group as the representative, based on the curriculum of educational technology and philosophy, carries out a practical research on the 2014-year- enrolled graduates’ curriculum of educational technology, and in the process of practice the activities of teaching program get further modified. The study finds that the teaching activity process proposed by this study is featured with high operability and it can provide certain norm for the discussion-based teaching.
