GIS has stepped into a rapid development stage since 90s of the 20th Century. With its increasingly powerful, GIS has been leaking into every aspect of our lives, including assisting High School geography Teaching. Many experts and scholars have applied themselves to assisting High School geography Teaching since GIS was incorporated into New High School Curriculum Standards of Geography in 2003, providing a large number of theories for GIS-aided Instruction.Not only should GIS-aided Instruction be conceptual, but also it should penetrate the teaching practice. Given that, this paper focuses on "GIS-aided geography teaching in high schools", in conjunction with Shanghai Geography Teaching Materials, exploring how to apply GIS to Geography Classroom Teaching in the Operation. Hoped has the help to geography teacher. The thesis is presented as five chapters:The first chapter, namely the introduction, analyses the current trends and dominance of GIS-aided Teaching on the basis of summarizing the characteristic of the subject of geography.Chapter 2 introduces the theoretical basis for GIS-aided geography teaching in high schools, including Driving with Task, Inspiring with Problems, and so on.Chapter 3 points out three fields of GIS-aided geography teaching (Classroom Teaching, Autonomic Learning and Investigative Learning) from theory to practice.In part four, in allusion to the problems of existing software, such as the complex functions, the high price, and the lack of Chinese language interface, etc, points out the need to create software based on assisting geography teaching. Combing with the teaching practice and the function of GIS, I design the system of Geography Teaching with the Assistance of GIS.Finally, the conclusion part summarizes the results, the shortcomings and the direction for further research.
