Observation ability is the important component of intelligence. Through observation students gain colorful perceptual knowledge, learn presentation and raise questions, which leads human beings further explore the world. Therefore,cultivating and developing observation ability has significant meanings.Nowadays it commonly exists in middle school education that students’ observation ability becomes weaker due to the negative effect of weaker self-control ability. Self-control ability plays core role in the connection of intelligence factors and non-intelligence factors. The development of self-control ability directly has an impact in study, life, social interaction and the development of personality. The research of self-control ability contributes to discovering the control and moderating effect of self-consciousness on observation. It enables us to study the essence, structure and development law of observation ability.Middle school is a special period of life. Middle school students experience great changes physically and psychologically, which makes them more sensitive to outside factors. It has become an urgent and realistic problem for middle school students to control behavior and thought during observation.Most of previous study cares the cultivation of observation ability from the prospective of schooling education. However, family is the starting point of education and has very important effects, which is indispensable during people’s growth. The research of the impacts of family on observation ability lacks.This study applies Family Environment Scale(FES-CV) which was designed by Moss in 1981 and later revised by Chinese scholar, Lipeng Fei. The study also utilizes Questionnaire on Self-control Ability of Middle School Students designed independently by Hongjiao Wang(2003), and Questionnaire on ObservationAbility of Middle School Students designed by Kunyu Yin(2012) independently,conducting survey to 343 middle school students whose average age was 13 years old in Shanghai. The results demonstrated that:(1) There is variance in middle school students’ observation ability in different grades. Observation ability varies from families of different economic status.(2) There is variance in middle school students’ self-control ability in different grades.(3) Family environment has significantly positive relationship with Middle school students’ self-control ability and their observation ability.(4) Middle school students’ self-control ability has significantly positive relationship with their observation ability.
