This study is based on a specific research into local environmental education as well as school-based curriculum development both at home and abroad. Taking advantage of the local biology curriculum resource, the researcher explored the teaching material and used it in the school-based biology class of Grade7. Outdoor activities are the main way of teaching. The concept of local education and environmental education helped the children in the cities get closer to the nature, which meanwhile arouses their environmental consciousness and their interest in learning biology. The reasearch was first carried out in the school-based biology class of Grade7 in Dagang No.2 Middle School of Binhai Development Area. The main research methods in this study were action research and questionnaire survey. After constracting and analyzing the data collected, the researcher explored whether the school-based biological and environmental curriculum in junior midddle school can help children in cities to get closer to the nature and whether it can arouse children’s consciousness in environment. The researcher also applied the software SPSS18.0 to analyze the students’studies in biology, so as to explore the impacts of the school-based biological and environmental curriculum on students’interests in biology. The research shows that the school-based biological and environmental curriculum on the one hand helps students to get closer to the nature. Yet it has limited effect on increasing the time students spend on outdoor activities or reducing the time students spend on electronic products and the internet. On the other hand, the curriculum has an obvious positive effect on so called nature-deficit disorder. As for the environmental consciousness, the curriculum brings more environmental knowledge to the students, changes their attitudes to the environment, makes the students to pay more attention to the environment, and arouses their responsibility in protecting the environment. The research also indicates that students are more interested in learning biology.
