With the rapid development of modern China’s economy and the improvement of its international status, "Chinese hot" is growing throughout the world. In recent years, Chinese teaching in the United States gradually expanded from adult to young children. Because the research on Chinese teaching to the kids starts late, the study on its three important aspects (teachers, textbooks and teaching method) is rare, especially on the research of exercise design in the textbooks. This paper, take example for Chinese Paradise Workbooks, combining with the writer’s experience of teaching Chinese in United States and the results of the questionnaire survey to the Workbook users, deeply analyzes the exercise design. At the end of this paper, some related using strategies and compiling suggestions are put forward.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction, talking about the present situation of the study, and introducing the theoretical basis and method of research.The second chapter introduces a series textbook of Chinese Paradise, which is commonly used in American primary school. This chapter also analyzes the exercise design in the Workbook from several aspects like the amount, type, content and instructions.The third chapter explains the design of the questionnaire and analyzes the result of the questionnaire survey.The fourth chapter concludes the strength and weakness of this Workbook, provides some strategies for the users and some suggestions for the compiler.The last chapter is the conclusion. Summarizes the full text, and points out shortcomings. |
