Alongside the educational reform of implementing the new curriculum, English learning is gaining its importance on the level of primary education. As to students of primary schools, cultivation and improvement of their reading skills in English language are rather coherent to the concept of students’ diversified development. Due to their lower ages and insufficient life experiences, the younger students’ levels of knowledge are not so good. Traditional teaching methods neglect the cultivation of improving reading ability, and teachers ignore the importance of the effectiveness of reading teaching as well. All these factors decrease the students’ reading interest and thus the teaching results are not satisfactory.The integration of MI(Multiple Intelligence)theory and English reading in class fits in with the needs of English language learning, and also conforms to the requirements of the new curriculum reform for students’ diversified development. This paper aims to explore a new form of English reading teaching effectiveness in class. First, the author analyzes the presently-adopted textbooks, Oxford English(for Primary Schools, Shanghai Edition). On the basis of the classroom observation and a questionnaire, it also gives a brief account of present situation and analyzes the problems. Next, it discusses the inefficient phenomenon, therefore puts forward the research questions and ideas. Finally, it is about the constructing and applying the English reading strategies based on MI for primary schools, from the two dimensions of the theoretical framework and its practical application.In the course of the work, the author uses the methods of literature research, questionnaire survey and case studies. The thesis puts forward strategies of improving the effectiveness of English class reading teaching for primary school students through two sectors as followings: the implementation and the evaluation. At the same time, class reading teaching has been fully studied by means of the teaching practice in Qinghua Primary School. By analyzing the data, the MI method could help students master knowledge and develop their intelligences. It also could improve students’ reading capacity, change the evaluation methods, and facilitate the effective teaching of class reading as a whole.
