With the constant development and updating of education curriculum ideas, all researches and art educational institutions in every areas put focus on the study of exploring and making full use of the local art curriculum sources. However, due to the vast land of our country, the sources in every region are different from each other in variety, structure and state, all cultural and natural resources are distinctive. Under this background, the focal point of modern education study is how to use the sources and how to make it useful for modern art education. Shanxi Province is well-known by its rich cultural and natural resources which has a huge contrast compared to the development of local art resources.Jin embroidery(Shanxi Province is briefly named as Jin), one of the most richest sources for local art curriculum, is very attractive in citizens’ daily life. It is the representative for Shanxi embroideries, it is different from other famous embroideries because of its rustic traditional pattern made by homely laboring people, strong color contrast, beautiful moral, and unique shape, all these reflect harmonious aesthetics.Taking the “Jin embroidery’s traditional pattern” as research focus, this paper merges the folk art source with the art teaching practice in middle school, and comes up with the idea of bringing Jin embroidery to the local art classes in middle school in the form of school-based curriculum so as to provide basis for folk art source to middle school classes.This paper uses methodology of literature analysis, field research, a lot of questionnaire and teacher interview, and finally practice teaching in Class Three, Grade One of the fourth middle school in Yuanping, Shanxi Province. The specific teaching cases on art class are carried out in four models like “appreciation,” “style” “design”and “synthesis”. The result of art teaching practice demonstrates that Jin embroidery, theexploration of local art curriculum source can broaden students’ horizon, strengthen their preference to art and improve their comprehensive ability and exploration ability in order to make them love the art source in hometown.Although the exploration of Jin embroidery traditional patterns is only a case study,but the successful teaching experience and method from it can expand the local characteristic art education. For future research, more teachers and art researchers are hoped to explore and participate.
