Then the functions of social annotation are analyzed in the perspective of knowledge building, with the analysis of the necessity of learning scaffoldings in the process of knowledge building. Based on the frameworks of foreign reading assessment and the domestic requirements of reading ability, the corresponding reading annotation scaffoldings are designed. Finally, the research is taken Class four Grade eight of fraternal and experimental school in Minhang District as a case, designing and implementing the experiment of social annotation based on knowledge building. The results show that with annotation scaffoldings, social annotation can mobilize students’existing knowledge experience, reconstruct and integrate their own knowledge with others’, deepen the understanding of the reading contents and encourage students actively to build and enrich their personal knowledge and collective knowledge.
