Since ancient times, happiness has been the pursuit of human beings. However, with the development of the times, the factors that affect the citizens’ well-being have changed. In this paper, the five waves’data of the World Value Survey (WVS) from 1990 to 2012 were used to analyze the factors affecting the subjective well-being of Chinese citizens. Through analyzing the factors influencing the subjective well-being of the time node of each wave and each generation, exploring the changes on the factors and its reasons.The analysis results show that the subjective well-being of Chinese citizens is showing a trend of decline in volatility, and there are some differences in the factors that influence the subjective well being in each wave of the survey. The factors of health level, economic satisfaction, social anomie and national pride have significant influences on the subjective well-being of each wave survey. The higher level of health will always bring a higher level of subjective well-being, and presents the trend of more and more important; The higher level of economic satisfaction, the higher degree of subjective well-being will the citizens get; The lower level of social anomie of citizens will always bring a higher degree of subjective well-being; the higher level of national pride, the higher degree of subjective well-being will the citizens get. In addition, the first wave of 1990 survey data show that factors affecting citizens’ subjective well-being include marital status, universal trust; Factors affecting citizens’ subjective well-being in 1995 also include gender, age, education level, raise taxes to protect the environment; Factors that affect the citizens’ subjective well-being in 2001 also include age, marital status, income levels, universal trust; Factors affecting citizens’ subjective well-being in 2007 also include gender, age, education level, marital status, income levels, democratic awareness degree; Factors affecting citizens’ subjective well-being in 2012 also include gender, age, education level, universal trust, government trust. From the point of the factors influencing the subjective well-being of each generation, Health level, economic satisfaction, social anomie, national pride still have significant influence on the subjective well-being of each generation. The men of the 60 generation,70 generation and 80 generation have higher level of subjective well-being than women; The higher education level always bring a higher degree of subjective well-being in generation before 50,60 generation and 70 generation; The married of the 50 generation,70 generation and 80 generation have a higher degree of subjective well-being than single groups; The citizens that believe most people can be trusted have a higher degree of subjective well-being than groups that think most people can be careful in generation before 50,70 generation,80 generation; The citizens that more trust the social organizations (big companies or enterprises) always have a higher degree of subjective well-being in generation before 50,50 generation. These differences may be related to the background of that time, and this paper also made a corresponding interpretation.According to the empirical analysis results, combined with the actual situation of China’s social development, this paper puts forward the targeted countermeasures and suggestions in order to provide decision-making basis for improve the subjective well-being of Chinese citizens.
