Chinese Language Curriculum Design For Overseas Children Beginners

Since 2015 to 2016, The author worked as a volunteer Chinese teacher at the Confucius institute of the University of Newcastle.While teaching there, I realized there is an obvious trend that more and more young children started to learn Chinese. However teaching at the local school are faced with many difficulties, such as lack of suitable Chinese textbooks, the young teacher are not familiar with local teaching system, the Chinese classes are insufficient and there is no strict rule for the teaching plan. Thus conbined the theoretical basis with own practical experience,i designed the one term teaching plan for the beginner learners of Australia primary school in year 3 to year 4.The thesis consists of five parts.The first part is an introduction, introduced the reason and the meaning of the thesis,as well as the content and the backgrou. ls of the study. The second part of the thesis analyzed the New South Wales K-10years Chinese teaching syllabus.It also explored the characteristics of the student’s psycology, physiology, and cognitive features meanwhile the teaching environment also be analyzed.The third part is the main part of the essay.Based on the reseach of the second part, the third part designed the overall teaching plan:teaching principles,teaching aims,teaching methods.The fouth part is the reflection of the essay.The fifth part is the conclusion.The research of this thesis, presenting the local Chinese curriculum, learning environment, and the elements of the Chinese teaching plan,is based on real case.For the teachers who have newly started teaching overseas for the children at the primary school,the teaching plan in this essay can be a good reference. The Chinese teaching plan can also make sure that the teaching activties more effective and stimulate the interests of local students. For the new teachers under similar circumstances,the thesis can help them improve working efficiency.
