Teacher competency has become one of the core content of teacher evaluation, as a new research field is more and more get the favour of scholars.Chemistry, is one of the most important of the basic education subjects, so the chemistry teachers’ professional development and education levels will directly affect the quality of basic education in China.In this paper the current situation of high school chemistry teachers’ competence in Xining city investigation and study, the research purpose is to compile in line with the local high school chemistry teachers’ practical competence questionnaire, analysis of the factors influencing the teachers’ competence, aiming at the shortcomings of the existed to teacher put forward reasonable Suggestions, in order to help the local high school chemistry teachers’ practical teaching work.This paper consulted Lin Lijie people such as research, to construct the Xining city high school chemistry teacher competency model, and the 106 in-service high school chemistry teachers’ competence in Xining city present situation investigation.First of all, build the high school chemistry teachers’ competency model, divided into individual elements, essential knowledge and comprehensive ability to work three primary dimensions and 29 secondary dimension.Second, developed the high school chemistry teachers’ competency of self-evaluation questionnaire ", to test the questionnaire reliability, the reliability of the questionnaire is relatively good.Finally, part of the research object to make use of questionnaire and interview, the results show that:(1) The current city high school chemistry teachers’ basic competence level in the medium to high, it remains to be further improved.Overall, a significant impact on teachers’ competency factors include teachers’ age, teaching age, educational background, and the position of the teacher’s gender and the school does not significantly affect competence.(2) The young teachers in the personality factors and the ability to work on the scores are relatively low, that the current city young teachers in high school chemistry teachers in terms of personality elements or the ability to work remains to be improved.(3) Although the teachers gender does not affect the overall competence, but has significant correlation with gender dimension of secondary language expression ability, chemical experiment ability, communication ability, listening ability, strain ability to adapt and plan ability, in the impact of these specific work ability character also is larger.(4) Current city high school chemistry teachers teachers with undergraduate degrees in the ability to work at a medium level, the main teachers still in high school chemistry teachers to teachers with an undergraduate degree to rely on.(5) The position of the teacher’s school has no effect on teachers’ competency in general, therefore cannot conclude that urban school high school chemistry teacher competency better conclusions.But normal graduates tend to go to the city’s school work.
