Teaching materials is an essential carrier for students ’learning and educators ’teaching in the subject of Chinese. As a result,when giving Chinese lessons, we need to make full use of the resources in Chinese textbooks, where tragic character becomes a valuable asset. This paper investigated the tragic figures from the high-school Chinese books of PEP (Peoples’ Education Press) in 2003 version, discussed them through relevant tragic theories. And based on theoretical presentation, this article also proposed advices on how to study these unfortunate images in practical instruction.Thesis the first part, first of all, in combination with related literature this paper discusses the connotation of the tragedy and tragic figure, summarizes the characteristics of tragic characters.The second part discusses the language teaching material of the tragic characters,And according to the different division standard of tragic characters are classified.Due to the cause of their tragedy, they can be sorted into personality, fate and society oriented images. Given to the conflict of the process, they can be classified into images with contradiction including human vs. nature, human vs. society and human vs. human self. Considering their final destiny, they can also be grouped into tragic characters with physical destruction, mental trauma or happy ending.The third part is the main content tragedy characters and the relationship between Chinese teaching, this paper expounds the necessity of tragic character image research and teaching value.Combining the reality of Chinese teaching and tragedy character image research, put forward the corresponding teaching strategies. Pay attention to in teaching from the cause of the tragedy characters, conflict process, explore the several aspects, such as ending. Seize the key details, using the method of comparison, to deepen the understanding of the tragic characters. It is necessary to carry out diversified interpretation of tragic characters, but avoid unconstrained style, must be based on boundary of text, the research was conducted in the teaching the basis of a tragic character image research.
