"Shadow education" refers to education activities which give additional cultural courses to primary and secondary school students who are receiving school education in order to improve their academic grades in school. Such education activities are carried out by tutoring organizations with certain scale, places and specific personnel. Shadow education accompanies with mainstream schooling, excluding tutors or extra free tutoring by teachers after class.This study conducts random sampling on third to sixth grade students of 12 classes in a primary school in Taizhou.The current situation of shadow education in primary schools can be known through self-made questionnaires and interviews.468 questionnaires were given out this time and 451 valid questionnaires were taken back. In addition, the author made random interviews with 30 students and 15 parents. Each interviewee was numbered. And the the collected data was analyzed through SPSS21.0 mainly by descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, factor analysis, variance analysis and other methods.This research is mainly divided into three parts.The first part of this thesis mainly describes the shadow-education actuality of the students of SY primary school in Taizhou, mainly including the analysis of sizes and causes as well as the intensity and efficiency of shadow education. According to the survey, the proportion of pupils attending shadow education increases with the rising of grades, which shows a low-aging trend. Most of students are required to participate in the shadow education by parents. The proportion of students attending shadow education is positively correlated with grades. The majority of students take part in one or two remedial classes. And the most effective subject of shadow education is mathematics followed by English.The second part mainly analyzes the influence of shadow education on primary school students which from positive effect and negative effect.The positive effects include that shadow education is conducive to improving the students’ academic performance and enhancing their learning ability. The negative effects include blind tutoring may increase the academic burden to students, students may form a habit of dependent study on shadow education to a certain degree and affect the development of the other quality of students.The third part mainly analyzes the problems in the phenomenon of shadow education in primary school students which is found in this investigation.The first is that the parents of primary school students ignore the students’ learning and choose the tutorial classes for students blindly.The second are the problems of shadow education institutions,which include that the teaching quality of institutions is uneven and there is hidden danger on the management of students.The last is that the school teachers ignore the study of underachievers and the contact with parents.In view of these problems.the author puts forward the following suggestions are put forward.Parents should be concerned about the study of students, understand students’mentality, and treat the supplementary question of students rationally.Shadow education institutions should pay attention to the cultivation of students’ learning ability and ensure the safety of students effectively. Schools should improve the educational evaluation system and improve the teaching organization mode.Teachers should treat every student equally,and establish a multi-channel contact with parents.Education administrative departments should strengthen the norms of the shadow education market, and protect the interest of students effectively.
