Under the background of new Curriculum Reform of Elementary Education, the author has presented the significance, purpose, contents and methods of research by collecting literature about the current situation of senior one students’ autonomous learning ability in maths study and learning relevant theories about autonomic learning. Autonomous learning in maths study is not only the requirement for the development of mathematics and students, but also an effective way to improve the teaching quality. Literature analysis, questionnaire investigation, interview method and action research method are adopted in this paper.Firstly, teachers and students in the first high school in Heishan county of Liaoning province are selected as the subjects. Questionnaire investigation and teacher interview are used to research the present status of senior one students’ autonomous learning. By analyzing the results, the author finds that three main factors have an influence senior one students’ autonomous learning ability in maths study, such as factors of students themselves, teachers’ teaching and students’ family. From the aspect of students, they mainly reflected in the lack of mathematics learning motivation, incorrectness learning method of mathematics, bad study habit and unsteady will power. They also performed as teachers’ traditional teaching concept.Secondly, according to these influential factors, the author has put forwardseveral teaching strategies and explored a model of teaching to cultivate autonomous learning ability of mathematics. For example, cultivating students’ autonomous learning awareness, paying attention to grasp the basic knowledge and basic skills, inspiring and cultivating the students’ learning motivation, strengthening the guidance of learning method, creating the conditions of the autonomous learning for the students, optimizing teaching by using different mathematical teaching methods, etc.Finally, the author has carried out preliminary experimental investigation to cultivate autonomous learning ability in maths study of senior one students.Two senior one classes from first high school in Heishan county of Liaoning province are selected as the experimental class and contrast class specifically.The autonomous learning ability of students in experimental class have been improved after teaching experiment. They have formed a habit of autonomous learning basically and their maths scores have increased and better than the contrast class. The research shows that: firstly, targeted guidance on students’ motivation, methods and habits of mathematics learning can promote the students’ autonomous learning ability. Secondly, the effective way to improve teaching quality is to cultivate autonomous learning ability of senior one students in teaching methods. To guide the self-study teaching mode in mathematics is an effective way to improve the students’ learning enthusiasm and learning attitude and to cultivate students’ ability of independent thinking and exploration. It reflects students’ dominant role and has guidingsignificance on classroom teaching so as to realize the teaching concept “teach is not to teach”.
