With the deepening of new curriculum reform, great changes have taken place in English classroom teaching. However, the author found a problem which can’t be overlooked in the process of internship, studentsare obviously not willing to do the homework, their attitude towards homework is not serious, some students even did not do homework frequently; the author makes a hypothesis about the reasons:(1)the homework is too much,(2)the homework is too difficult,(3)the homework is boring, and the form of the homework is dull;(4) the teachers’ method of homework assessment is simple, students did not like the assessment of teachers. In order to help students learn English better and improve their interests on English homework, so the author makes a questionnaire to investigate the problems. According to the survey, the author found that the following problems existed in current junior English homework:(1)the amount of English homework is a little big, but it is almost mechanically transcribing words and mechanically doing exercises,(2)and the types of homework is not creative,the contents of homework are not comprehensive, it can’t develop students’ comprehensive language ability,(3)the homework is boring and not any enjoyment;(4) when the teacher assesses their students’ homework, the methods of assessment is simple, simple assessment by teachers makes the students live in a passive state, student can not develop their initiatives. And the author interviewed five teachers about their homeworkfor students, they said the homework they assigned for students almost belongs to written homework, and the homework did not have attraction for students, the amount of homework is large. Being based on this investigation, the authorsearches for the related literature and asks some experienced teachers for advice, tries to change the situation from these following methods:(1) decrease the amount of homework, make a negotiation with other teachers in this class, balance the overall amount of homework.(2) create more types of homework,make more interesting and creative types of homework. listening, speaking, reading and writing four types of homework; consolidating homework, homework of creativity and innovation;(3)increase the students’ interests and enthusiasm on homework.(4)reform the forms of homework assessment. Try to make students participate in the system of homework assessment, such as peer-feedback, group work discussion, collective perception, etc.After three months of implementation, students almost can finish their homework on time, and the quality of homework improved a lot, their enthusiasm and interests for English homework also strengthened.According to three months of implementation and observation, the author found: diverse forms of homework can be helpful to improve the students’ learning initiatives, creative and interesting homework also promote the students’ listening and speaking, reading and writing ability, their knowledge and skills also get a promotion. The students join in the homework assessment, their initiatives are motivated, the enthusiasm and interests are increased. But as the great pressure on entrance exam, the time of grade nine students are urgent, some of the new homework didn’t get a full implementation. This essay is just a small attempt, the author hopes the essay can give more new ideas for English teachers. There are some shortcomings in the essay, hopes the readers to comment.
