To cultivate scientific researchers or specialized technical personnel are educational objectives for graduate students in China, which training scientific researchers is for academic masters. However, considering from situation at present, learning motivations of a large number of academic masters are inconsistent with educational objectives. This kind of inconformity might lead to low learning initiative, a waste of educational resource, decline of educational return in colleges and universities.Though government has guided rational separation for academic masters and professional masters on purpose to ease contradiction between non-academic motivation and educational objectives for academic masters. Due to reasons such as prejudice against education for professional masters from society and inherent pursuit for academic education in colleges universities, government policies are not effective enough to ease contradiction between learning motivations and educational objectives of academic masters. Thus studying on learning motivations and impact factors and then guiding academic masters learning motivations or making adjustments on policies could be of great practical significance.Through analysis and research on learning motivations with behavioral economics, there are the conclusions. First of all, learning motivations of academic masters are various, including drive from family and society, drive from degree and work, drive from academic ideal. But motivation level keeps down and students are lack of strong desires. Secondly, drive from degree and work has deeper influence than other factors on learning motivations, especially drive from degree,which got the highest score among all the factors. This illustrates learning motivations of academic masters wear utility. In the third place, learning motivations of academic masters are obviously non-academic. Most of them have neither high pursuit for academy nor specific academic ideal, and they are lack of research enthusiasm. Meanwhile, after doing correlation analysis on impact factors of learning motivation, it did not have significant correlation between pursuing academic master degree and students age, grade, family economic condition and their education background, and these do not have effective influence on drive from academic ideal.On account of above analysis, the contradiction between learning motivation and education objective of academic masters could be remitted from the following four aspects. Government promotes public cognition and offers reasonable localization for professional masters, does support recruit and education for professional masters, legitimately guides two kinds of masters. Colleges and universities pay attention about publicity on register, development and choice for academic masters, complete incentive system and increase graduation requirement. Tutors understand motivations of their students and offer appropriate academic guidance in order to stimulate students enthusiasm. Students should have correct understanding of their own needs and do rational choice, thus they will have specific aim.
