Based on a Chinese learning motivation investigation in the non-target language environment, this thesis finds there are six types of Chinese learning motivations of the Junior One students in Chitnorot Wittayalai Shool, which are:the language interesting motivation; the going abroad motivation; the passive motivation; the intercultural communication motivation; the group motivation and the class setting motivation. Among them, the language interesting motivation is the primary one that influences these students largely. These six motivations only reflect two levels motivation according to the Dornyei’s theory, the Language level and the Learning Situation level. The missing one is the Learner level, which means these students haven’t had a clear goal of learning Chinese in the mass. These Junior one students still lake of the consciousness of self-determination and initiative. The specific parts that largely influence the student’s learning motivation are:hoping to use Chinese when taking a travel, the teachers’ attitude toward students, the cultural attraction and desire of intercultural communication, the love of Chinese songs. The influence of gender factor to the motivations shows that:the strength of girls’ language interesting motivation is higher than boy’s. This result also shows the tendency that girls are focused on perceptual cognizance, but the boys are focused on logical cognizance. The Chinese background doesn’t show any influence to their Chinese learning motivations. The factor:whether study Chinese additionally, influences the students on two motivations. One is the language interesting motivation and the other one is going aboard motivation. The student’s who learning Chinese additionally have higher level than the students who don’t on these two motivations. At the last part, this thesis suggests some teaching advices according to the investigation result.
