Research On The Role Of Family Social Capital In Migrant Workers’ Children In Urban Adaptation

The sixth national census data shows that the number of migrant workers ’children has reached 35.81 million; Migrant children issue has raised various concerns.Because of learning environment, lifestyle, changes in the family environment,migrant children in the city is facing pressure to adapt to many aspects such as everyday life, schooling, social interaction and psychological. Recent studies on migrant children have been from the original domestic concerns schooling to urban adaptation. Thus, what pressure do the migrant children have in the city during the process of adaptation? Whether or not does the family social capital act as a "decompression" in the process of coping with stress? What effect is produced?Research on this issue will not only contributes to enrich the research achievements in this field, but also plays important practical significance facilitating the migrant children’s faster resocialization.This study used qualitative research methods to obtain a purposive sampling method on 14 cases of semi-structured interviews and participant observation research data, which presents a particular system of adapting stress that migrant workers’ children suffer. It was found that migrant children’s adapting to daily life and social interaction is relatively easier while adapting to life in learning is more difficult.However, adapting to the psychological level is the most difficult, which should be the real sign of completing psychological adaptation.It was found that family social capital city promote their migrant children adaptation in three aspects, which is structural family social capital, social capital in the family and family social capital. First of all, a family size, family structure, family social and economic status as the main content of structural family social capital can provide migrant children to adapt to the basic conditions of urban migrant workers,the basic conditions determine their culture in family investment; Secondly, in the family parents expectations, good parent-child relationship and the relationship, and other family members relationship can work on migrant city adaptation of children,make them form the correct learning habits and customs, social interactions,confidence in their training and identity; Finally, the rational use of family social capital can effectively promote the migrant children adapt to, mainly through two ways, one is from the external world, the second is the common specification.
