For a long time, bound by the traditional educational ideology, most elementary school mathematic teaching and students’life lose relevance to the reality, which makes it difficult to attract students to learn. Therefore, a serious shortage of students’ enthusiasm and initiative has seriously hampered the effectiveness of learning and improvement of school education quality. In order to deal with primary mathematic teaching problems in the process, teachers need to adopt life-oriented teaching methods and actively carry out teaching activities, making teaching content closer to the students’ life and teaching method more straight-forward so that the effectiveness of teaching could be more obvious to effectively enhance students comprehensive quality, and to improve the quality of education.After thorough study of teaching mathematics through practice and experience, firstly, this paper elaborates the status quo of teaching mathematics through practice and experience in both home and abroad, gives a clear definition of the relevant concepts, and analyses Dewey life education theory as well as Ausubel’s meaningful learning theory which lay a solid foundation for this study. Secondly, this paper selects mathematics teachers and students from a few elementary schools in yan’an as the research subject, and uses questionnaires, interviews to understand the teaching adaptation application of primary school mathematic teachers from four aspects:Primary school teachers teaching adaptation awareness; connections between new teaching materials and life; teaching adaptation implementation and teachers’attitudes to teaching adaptation. Analyzing from students’awareness towards mathematics learning and basic situation of mathematics connecting to life, this paper concludes achievements and problems of teaching adaptation in primary schools in Yan’an. The reasons are as follows:teachers’ knowledge is not broad enough; some teachers go extreme in teaching adaptation; some teachers have mistaken ideas in formalization of teaching adaptation; teachers’evaluations towards students are unscientific and some students particularly value their academic performance. Finally, through the analysis of outstanding cases of elementary school mathematic teaching in Yan’an, this paper proposes strategies for improving primary school mathematic teaching adaptation:Firstly, the teaching concepts should be life-oriented, which need teachers to update the concepts of education and to improve their own quality and teaching ability to reflection; Secondly, the teaching content should be life-oriented, which means teaching materials should be made full use of; Thirdly, the process of teaching is life-oriented, namely situation teaching; Fourth, teaching methods should be life-oriented, which means the teachers’ teaching language should be life-oriented, for example, the assignment that teachers make should be life-oriented so as to promote the cooperation between home and school etc.
