Group Work Intervention In Community Empty-nesters Psychological Mutual Assistance

In the 21 st century, empty nest family will become the main mode of the urban elderly households in China. When children who due to many reasons such as work, study and got married left home, "empty nest" of the elderly couple alone can produce psychological disorders, who often feel depressed, depression and loneliness. According to the survey, "In the empty nest elderly, there are 60% people exist psychological problems ". As more and more “empty nest” old man, the government is also very concerned about this special group of people at the moment. The government and charitable foundation investment many love empty-nesters projects, which mostly provide service are the help of daily life, and also have the help of the spirit but not success, such as arrange volunteers have a chat with empty-nesters that are unprofessional and short. When the volunteers finished a period of time service about accompany the empty nest old man, they feel more empty sentiment, lonely. This kind of intervention approach simply can’t reach the desired effect, and the best method is to allow the elderly to mutual aid. In this way, when the service of volunteer or a social worker finish, the empty-nesters can still " heating " with each other.This paper will adopt a new way, namely the intervention of group work in psychological mutual aid. Through holding group to make the empty nest elderly in the community get together and build a communication platform for them. By this team the empty nest elderly will understand and familiar with each other, strengthen the link between them, help them to build a social support network, after the end of the group, they can also be spontaneous contact each other and achieve the effect of psychological support. In this intervention, I will be in Beijing empty nest elderly in the P community, for example, to study the psychological problems of community empty nest elderly with the way of psychological mutual aid group. Most children of P community empty nester are working in the field or going abroad. Those empty nester have good economic conditions, but because of the children’s absence, their psychological needs were not met, and the satisfaction of psychological need to become their concern.
