Deng Cuiying(1886-1972) is China’s famous modern educator, a former inspector of Fujian province, Counselor of the Ministry of education, Deputy Chief of the Ministry of education, Director of the Education Department of Henan Province, principals of Beijing Higher Normal School, Henan University, Xiamen University, among other roles. He has much learning and absorbing. Influenced by the Min School the early years and western advanced thought after studying in Japan and the United States, his thought of Convergence of Oriental and Western Civilizations! is rich, numerous and complex. And he has his own unique perspectives and insights in teacher education, didactics, character education, women’s education and compulsory education areas. Deng Cuiying devoted most of his life in the cause of education in China, and made painstaking efforts for the development of education. Such a scholar should not be drown in the dust of history, so this article analyzes the Deng Cuiying’s education thoughts comprehensively to find a fair and reasonable position for him in the education area in China modern times.Based on the available historical records, this article divides Deng Cuiying’s life and educational activities into six stages, and analyzes in detail the education thoughts in the background of the times and personal reasons firstly. Then we focus on Deng’s thoughts on teacher education, didactics, character education, women’s education and compulsory education respectively, which are the main part of his education thought. The characteristics and realistic meaning of his education thoughts are discussed in the end.This paper is divided into introduction, chapter 1 to chapter 5 as the body and conclusion.And the introduction consists of six parts as the reason and significance of the research, concept definition, literature review, research feasibility, research methods and the research challenges.In Sect. 1, the background and reasons of the development and change of Deng Cui ying’s thought of education is introduced comprehensively, and Deng’s life and educatio nal activities are divided into six stages: Studying Min School the early years and wester n advanced thought afterwards; deep roots when teaching in Beijing higher normal scho ol; a lot of controversy from the outside during served as president of Xiamen Universit y; concerned about the education of Henan province as President of Henan University; Resigning all the duties for Education of children in times of crisis and social disorder; promoting nine-year compulsory education in his later years living in Taiwan.Section 2 analyses Deng Cuiying’s thought of Teacher Education from 4 aspects of stage division of teacher education, cultivation of normal university students, students# internships, teaching and service concept, and the development trend of normal education.Section 3 describes the meaning,characteristics, purpose and training target of didactics.Section 4 discusses Deng’s thoughts on character education, women’s education and compulsory education.Section 5 summaries the characteristic of Deng Cuiying#s education thoughts, gives suggestions to the education nowadays.Finally, a brief summary of Deng Cuiying’s education thoughts.
