tennis develops to a large scale in big cities, which can be symbolized by numerous field facilities, a large fan base, and different kinds of contests every year; while this sport, of great value in terms of physical exercise and entertainment, evolves slowly in middle to small sized cities. Leshan, is a modern city of history, culture, tourism, and recreation and the citizens have shown an increasing enthusiasm toward sports, leading to the spread of tennis. But there is a dilemma of potential prospect and challenge for the development of tennis in Leshan in the current situation: lack for impetus, orientation and the lagging speed. This paper aims at investigating the present state of tennis and probe into findings via literature review, questionnaire, statistical and logical analysis.First, the orientation and layout of development is not reasonable. In 2015, Implementing Strategies for sports in Leshan stipulated the sports orientation and blueprint: under the principle of high starting line, main characteristic and rich foundation, sports layout for the whole leshan city is base-point-circle, that is, the industry of Emei martial arts, the manufacturing base of sports facilities in Leshan, and the commerce of outdoor and tourism sports, neglecting the development of tennis.Second, there is insufficient promotion, lacking for impetus. Due to the late development, Leshan is not qualified to organize the provincial tennis contest, just confined to the municipal clubs and colleges.Third, tennis development fails to connect with the promotion of city culture and tourism. Though the Tourism Fair has attracted tourist home and abroad, tennis missed this kind of opportunity to advocate itself, making people experience the glamour and excitement of tennis at the same time of being immersed in history and culture of Leshan.Fourth, tennis involvement and the sustainable development pose a challenge. The proportion of player is not reasonable: there is a dense scattering in terms of the age, sex and occupation, with marginal statistics from teens, and low approval from parents may hinder the further development of tennis.Fifth, there is contradiction between facilities and demands. Facilities and fields are insufficient, concerned arrangement for contest is not sound, along with other problems as unbalanced development, few courts and facilities in primary and middle schools. The author comes up with solutions, offering insights for reference: tennis development should be integrated with the local culture and tourism, organizing well-known contests, increasing courts and facilities, encouraging qualified coaches, and advocating involvement.
