Mount Taimushan National Geopark is situated in Fuding City, Ningde, northeast Fujian. This geopark owns numerous geoheritage resources, such as granite pictographic stones, granite peak clusters, scouring ditches, miarolitic cavities of Late Jurassic, islands, beaches, sea caves and so on. The geological features here are complex and well-preserved. Besides, there are distinctive She minority cultural and ancient architectures of the Tang and Song Dynasties. This paper gives a brief introduction to the geographic location, transportation, geological setting, climate, biodiversity and social and economic conditions, analyzes the geoheritage types, including geo-morphological landforms (dominated by pictographic granite landforms), rock (miarolite) and strata and geohydrological traces.This paper focuses on the status and existing problems of geoheritage protection within the geopark , and analyzes the whole configuration and scenic area distribution. This paper points out that the major restricted factors are: complex management system, disperse scenic area distribution, poor traffic condition, deficient safety facilities and others. In accordance with landform diversity and cultural uniqueness, this paper analyzes the principles, progress and significance of functional zonation in Mount Taimushan National Geopark. The geopark includes Yushan Island, Mount Taimushan, Niulanggang Beach and Jiulixi River Scenic Areas, this paper divides the geopark into the scientific education area, recreation area, cultural experience area, and geoheritage conservation area. Taking full advantage of various types of resources within Mount Taimushan National Geopark, integrating with natural landscapes, geoheritage and customs, this paper proposes the suggestive solutions to the functional zonation, At last, this paper discusses the comprehensive effectiveness of the geopark based on the all-round functional construction and tourism development, including the local social-economic, scientific popularization, and geoheritage protection profits.
