Northeast China was once the birthplace of Qing Dynasty. However, since moderntimes, it has been a bone of contention among western powers. In the first half of thetwentieth century, Northeast countryside in the first half of the twentieth century, bothzhang and his son in department of warlords with powers for the self-improvement, andthe rule of puppet manchukuo’s colonial rule, both indigenous people thrive, and to havethe influx of immigrants.The complicated political background and social change innortheast china has formed its unique regional culture and lifestyle. The northeastregion was a typical agricultural area, farmers account for eighty percent of the totalpopulation. Farmers’ living condition was a mirror of the society and era.The northeast farmers made their living mainly on growing crops. Food productionplays a decisive role to their life.In their consumption structure, the consumption ofmeans of livelihood is far more than the production input,and the survival consumptiontook a large proportion of it. This part of money was used both to support farmers andtheir children’s development of moral and intellectual education and to improve theirliving condition. The money used for enjoyment was much less.By the exploitation of the feudal class, the northeast farmers’living condition wasvery low. Lacking of nutrients, shabby clothes, bad living place and poor sanitaryconditions made a strong contrast to the intense physical labor. After the event onseptember18,1931, the northeast region fell into the colony of Japan. Japanese colonistsbecame the landlord under the new situation. The more cruel exploitation made peoplemore desperate. In the first half of the twentieth century, the northeast farmers not onlyput up with poverty, but also became a economical subsidiary of Japan.
