ABSTRACT:Knowledge innovation is an important source of enterprise’s survival and development. SMEs are an important part in China’s economic development, but innovation activities of our medium and small-sized enterprises is a serious shortage. Enterprise’s knowledge innovation would be affected by existing knowledge and external new knowledge acquisition, digestion, transformation and utilization. Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS) as emerging industries, providing the knowledge-based products and services, they play important role in SMEs knowledge innovation, and it is accepted by the theorists. So it has important theoretical and practical significance to research on the impact of KIBS to small and medium-sized enterprises knowledge innovation.This paper discusses the relationship between customer responsiveness of KIBS, absorptive capacity and knowledge innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises from the viewpoint of enterprise competence. This thesis built a theoretical model between customer responsiveness, the absorption ability and knowledge innovation according to informed research and uses the questionnaire and structural equation modeling to study the empirical research of the theoretical model. Four main conclusions of this study are listed as follows:(1) Customer responsiveness of KIBS has a significant influence on knowledge innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises.(2) Customer responsiveness of KIBS has a significant influence on absorption ability of small and medium-sized enterprises.(3) The absorption ability for small and medium-sized enterprises, its knowledge digestion and transformation can be influenced by knowledge acquisition and would further affect knowledge utilization which plays mediation role in absorption ability affect knowledge innovation. Therefore, SMEs should pay attention to improve its absorptive capacity, strengthen relations with KIBS with strong response capacity and increase knowledge accumulation, which ensure knowledge innovation activities in an orderly way.
