The Research Of Innovation Upon Shanghai Development Zones Advance

As the engine of Chinese economic development, the development zoneplay an exemplary and leading role in absorbing foreign investments andtechnology, promoting employment, internationalizing economy and etc. Afternearly30years of development, Shanghai Development Zone, creating51%ofthe industrial total output,49%of industrial tax,39%of the total industrialprofits and17%of the employment, has obtained extraordinary achievement.However, on the one hand, along with the changes of the situation home andabroad like the international financial crisis as well as the restrictive growths ofindustry, policy, resources and system which development zones facing inside,Shanghai development zone is facing serious challenges which in the key periodof transformation from the stage of rapid growing to the stage of upgrading transiting; on the other hand, in the "Twelfth Five Year Plan" period, the statehas declared the strategy of rebuilding Shanghai into the Four InternationalCenters. Nevertheless the Ministry of Commerce has proposed the developmentrequirements for development zone in the eastern developed area. Shanghaidevelopment zone should set a good example, for some extent, it has heavyresponsibilities. As a result, Shanghai Development Zone has an urgent forabandoning the traditional development model so as to actively explore a newpath of development and innovation. This paper briefly describe thedevelopment history and present situation of Shanghai Development Zone,analyze the current challenges and point out some advises and thoughts oninnovation of Shanghai Development Zone basing on the theory of sustainabledevelopment and the theory of industrial structure adjustment as well as drawinglessons from home and abroad excellent development zone home and abroad.
