The control of production and energy consumption is a high environmentalpriority commitment by governments. We have in France, and more widely in Europe,technical and technological means for a better energy management. This requires anoptimal utilization of resources. The major challenge therefore lies in the way weconsume energy. The struggle of economic and ecological therefore goes necessarythrough energy efficiency. This situation leads to a rapid growth of the consultingbusiness for energy efficiency in order to tackle the different needs and regulations.That particularly affects the food, drink and milk industry since the rising energy costsbut also environmental issues and regulations have raised it awareness about theirenergy consumption. But because of the important weight of the food industry in themarket, the energy becomes a competitive challenge for them.New opportunity rise from it for consulting services, but for a new player on themarket of Energy Service Company, developing a business needs methodologies andtools in order to carry out the activity. The methodology lies essentially on theassessment of the market situation such as prospects and legal obligations but also clearprocedures to be applied. Each company usually develop it owns procedure aiming forthe most comprehensive study possible. It usually includes the development of forms orprotocol for measurement and verification for the determination of energy value toimprove. Then the competitive advantage for any company would come from its value-added, the expertise to offer the best solution from the data and information collected ofa given situation. That comes across through analysis tools such as the utilization ofcomparative analysis, pinch analysis or exergy analysis. All these tools andmethodologies designed for the engineers of consulting companies could becomehelpful for any consulting company such as Elvia Ingénierie, targeting the sector offood, drink and milk industry. But starting a business could be extremely challengingwhich needs to assess the prospect including the stakeholders of the market, thecompetitors or the legal regulations.Given the current situation and future prospect of food, drink and milk industry,the possibility of developing the business of Energy Service Company is important andpromising. Thanks to the rapid growth and evolution of new technology and new regulation, there is a need to adapt and improve a company’s methodology for carryingout an energy efficiency study regularly for the market.
