Research On Energy Efficiency Of China

Energy shortage and environmental pollution has become the two major issues of China's economic and social sustainable development. Energy efficiency helps to alleviate these two problems, and to enhance the overall competitiveness of the economy. The thesis explores the theory of energy-economy-environment system, and provides a comprehensive, systematic and accurate evaluation on China's energy efficiency and it's affecting factors.The conclusions of this thesis are as follows: (1) The thesis discusses coordinated development theory of 3E system based on energy efficiency with the environmental functional decomposition, constructs a control model of 3E systems, and reveals that improving energy efficiency by technological progress is an important means and a best entry point to coordinate the 3E system. (2) The factors decomposition of energy intensity reveals the small contribution of structural factors to energy intensity in China. And the structural factors promote energy intensity increased in manufacturing sector. (3) The thesis adopts total factors energy efficiency index to empirically investigate the energy efficiency of China's eight major economic regions from 1998 to 2005. (4) Based on Logarithmic Mean Weight Divisia (LMD) method and energy ecological footprint, the thesis analyzes energy environmental efficiency and Energy Ecological Efficiency. (5) Comprehensive assessment of China's 3E system reveals that the comprehensive development level is significantly improved, and 3E system is direct to coordinate and stabilize, but the difference between regions is obvious. (6) Base on the energy scenario analysis report of CAS, the thesis concludes that the two times revolution of energy efficiency can be achieved by strengthening policy based on the successful completion of the government's planning objectives.In general, the assessment for energy efficiency should be based on economic efficiency, environmental efficiency and ecological efficiency. China's the medium and long-term energy development strategy should take into account the above aspects, but should also take into account the coordinated development of energy, economic and environmental as well as the objective differences among regions.
