The Research On The Equipment Manufacturing Competitiveness Of Shandong Province

Equipment manufacturing industry, which is a basic and strategic industry, provides technical equipments for national economic development and national defense construction and has the features of high industrial correlation, long product chain and strong driving ability, and reflects the industrial and technological development of a country or region. As China’s economically-advanced province, Shandong also shoulder the responsibility to revitalize the equipment manufacturing industry and to update the industrial transformation. Equipment manufacturing industry is one of the pillar industries of Shandong, ant its industrial scale, product categories and product yields hold a leading position in China, and has some world-famous or nation-famous enterprises, such as Sinotruk, Haier, Hisense, Weichai. At the same time, there are also some problems, such as lack of independent innovation capability, poor economic benefits, low proportion of high-end industries, heavy dependence on imports of high-tech equipment and technology. Compared with developed countries, Jiangsu, and Guangdong, the overall competitiveness of Shandong still lags behind. Therefore, an objective analysis on the development of equipment manufacturing industry and the exploration of new ideas for industrial development will be very significant for Shandong to enhance the overall industrial equipment manufacturing competitiveness.This thesis describes the theory of industrial competitiveness sources, evaluation methods, evaluation system, and evaluates the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Shandong’s equipment manufacturing competitiveness by using SWOT analysis on the basis of the development status of the equipment manufacturing industry in Shandong Province. Based on the researches of scholars at home and abroad, this thesis also uses the factor analysis method to construct competitiveness evaluation model to compare the competitiveness of different provinces horizontally, and draws the conclusion of the level of Shandong’s equipment manufacturing competitiveness nationwide and deficiencies. The following conclusions can be drawn from the research. Shandong’s equipment manufacturing has a strong competitiveness in China, especially in its industrial scale, but doesn’t have an advantage when it comes to economic benefits, which means profitability needs improving. R&D, technology and market influence are the weaknesses of Shandong’s equipment manufacturing industry. At the end of this thesis, some suggestions are make to improve Shandong’s equipment manufacturing competitiveness.
