An Empirical Study Of The Relationship Between Economic Growth And Employment Growth In Jiangsu Province

The relationship between economic growth and employment is the basic issue of labor economics. The common view of academia is that economic growth is a prerequisite for employment and there is a strong correlation between them. Since the reform and opening up, the economy in China has maintained rapid growth. High economic growth has brought rapid employment growth for China, but in recent years, there is a decreasing trend of the overall employment growth. Jiangsu Province and the country’s situation are much the same, except that there is a decreasing trend of employment growth compared with the country. In this paper, under the background of the national economy, the relationship between economic growth and employment in Jiangsu is chosen for the study. There is a quantitative analysis on the relationship between economic growth and employment since 1992 in Jiangsu Province. By comparing the results of the analysis during the same period, we find that the employment situation in Jiangsu has a pre decreasing feature than the country. On this basis, the paper continues to thoroughly investigate the cause of this phenomenon. Technological progress, fixed asset investment and industrial structure are the main differences. Also find that, despite the spurring in Jiangsu is weaker than the country, but the quality of employment in Jiangsu is higher than the country. Finally, in order to continue to improve the quality of employment, there are many recommendations to promote the employment in Jiangsu. They are very important not only for Jiangsu but also for the whole country.
