At present, with the global integration process speeding up, regional cooperation and regional division of labor has become the most ideal and effective way to promote the economic growth. Chengdu plain economic circle, as one of the southwest largesteconomies, it has obtained a rapid development and progress in recent years. In this paper, we analyze the layer structure and economic radiation of Chengdu plain economic circle by using the clustering methodology and mathematical model method and so on.On the basis of research, we intend to reveal the problems existing in Chengdu plain economic circle, and then put forward the corresponding suggestions and countermeasures.First of all, we collect statistical yearbook data of Sichuan and establish social economic index system and analyze seven cities belonging to Chendu plain economic circle by SPSS.17.0.Secondly, seven cities can be divided into central city, second tier city and outer city to analyze the structural characteristics of Chengdu plain economic circle according to the result of clustering. And similarly, the center of this plain economic circle, Chendu can be divided into central city, second tier city and outer city and radiation city by using the method of cluster analysis. Furthermore, through economic gravity model, this paper also has discussed the historical influence of the economic center on the other six cities, and then propose some existing problems and give some countermeasures. This paper has concluded that:(1)The Chendu plain economic circle geographically takes on a double-linear crossed structure which centers on Chendu, second tier cit(Mianyang.Deyang.Leshan) and outer city(Meishan.Ya’an.Ziyang). This kind of circle structure is beneficial to the economic accumulation and maximizes the balance among the resources, population, and transportation of Chendu.(2)Chendu, the center of the plain economic circle, is centered with five districts, and some second tier cities, such as Long Quan yi and Shuangliu county, which takes on an irregular concentric circles structure. This paper proposes the concept of four layer structure instead of the generally accepted three layer structure. The occurrence of second layer cities promotes the development of the whole areas, and the center city also has great impacts on the outer and radical cities, leading the whole areas to a flexible and sustainable development. However, according to cluster analysis based on the empirical data, it reveals that the four kinds of cities are mainly located in an irregular concentric circle, which means that the traffic facilities of Chendu has contributed little to the economic development.(3) Chendu, as the center of the whole areas, has a great impact on the other six cities. However, the degree of economic gravity is decided by the combination of economic strength of the radical cities, level of urbanization, and the distance between them. It can be shown form this paper that the influence of Chendu on the six cities is distinguishable and the strength of economic gravity is mainly decided by the distance between them. Besides, though the economic radiation has strengthened during the last ten years, the gap of economic gravity among these six cities has also enlarged.(4)There exist some problems in the plain economic circle of Chendu, such as the weakness of the overall economic strength, low internal coordination and high concentration of growth pole. Accordingly, suggestions are as follows: increase the economic radiation influence of the center city, strengthen the comprehensive economic strength in non-centered cities, and use macroeconomic regulation and control means to optimize the industrial structure.
