The electronic commerce has become an important opportunity for the small and medium-sized enterprises to transform and develop as E-commerce has gradually gained its scale and scope. 64.12% of China’s foreign trade in 2014 has been accomplished by the small and medium-sized enterprises. However, the small and medium-sized enterprises being involved in foreign trade are faced with various internal and external difficulties. E-commerce is now offering a new promising opportunity for the small and medium-sized enterprise in the depressing global market. Actually difficulty in financing, low development in logistics and human resource management are restricting the small and medium-sized enterprises from developing in cross-border e-commerce while the big e-commerce platform is really helping the small and medium-sized enterprises out.The paper has conducted a case study of Dhgate. The Dhgate, established in 2004, has been providing a platform of cross-border E-commerce for the small and medium-sized enterprises to develop foreign trade from its very beginning of establishment. The Dhgate has become a promising platform of cross-border E-commerce relying on its continuous innovations and upgrading patterns. As a representative platform of cross-border E-commerce, the Dhgate is typical of its innovations. Firstly, the innovation lies in its orientation in serving the small and medium-sized enterprises. Secondly, its innovation lies in the profit-earning model which is based on buyer’s commission system helping the small and medium-sized enterprise to save cost. Finally, its innovation lies in web loans provided to the small and medium-sized enterprises as its innovative practice in cross-border E-commerce. Yet the competition among the cross-border E-commerce enterprises is fierce. The author tries to figure out the difficulties in the development of the Dhgate and gives some applicable proposes.This paper consists of four chapters. Chapter I serve as an introduction covering the research background, the significance, the research clue, the methodology as well as related concepts. Chapter II gives an overall analysis of the development in China’s E-commerce and in the small and medium-sized enterprises. Chapter III exerts a case study based on the cross-border E-commerce of the Dhgate which has been providing a platform for the small and medium-sized enterprises with its advantages, and find out the obstacles of Dhgate from the Government and the enterprises some suggestions now. Chapter IV proposes some suggestions to better the conditions of the small and medium-sized enterprises and Dhgate in developing their cross-border E-commerce.
