In the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization, much agricultural land have been expropriated, which inevitably bring many landless peasants. Because of their particularity, these farmers are different from those who live in the rural areas and cities, thus, they can easily become marginalized group. In recent years, relying on the coal industry, there is a rapid economic development in Jungar Banner and also because the price of coal keeps high level, the number of small and medium-sized coal mine increases rapidly. In Jungar Banner, coal mining makes many peasants lose their land and become landless. With the particularity, it is apparent that these kind of peasants get huge compensation and most of them have lived in cities. Whether these people can properly use the compensation is the key for their sustainable livelihood.Through questionnaire surveys and interviews with the villagers in Miaogoumen village, Yangshita countryside, Narisong town, Zhungeer Banner the author finds that the old people’s ability of sustainable livelihood is better than the young people. Also some of the young people can live a better life by efficiently using the compensation and these people are creative, adventurous, highly educated and professionally skilled.And puts forward some advice and countermeasures to improve the ability of sustainable livelihood in terms of farmers’own point of view. The suggestions and measures include:raising the farmers’cultural and knowledge level; strengthening skills training and learning more labor skills; changing traditional ideas and attitudes; establishing confidence in life. In order to improve farmers’sustainable livelihood, the government needs to protect farmers’benefit and provide a employment platform to ensure that they can get a new job.
