Research On The Economic Transition Of Fushun

Resource-based city is the city which was established on resources, andresource-based industries play an important role in city development and regionaleconomy. With resource mining and exhaustion, some cities face emergencies ofindustry transformation and sustainable development. Among118resource-based cities,there are69cities listed as resource-exhausted cities because of their resourcesexhausted, economy development slowly, obvious problems on living conditions andbig pressures on ecological environment. While resource-based cities developresource-exhausted ones, cities meet lots of bottleneck problems. Most obviously, it’sinvolved in economic transformation to resource-exhausted cities. No matter what kindof resource-exhausted cities in China or other countries in the world, there are similarcharacteristics they have. However, their current situations are different from each.Seven resource-exhausted cities are located in Liaoning province, including three levelcities–Fuxin、Fushun and Panjin, and four county cities–Beipiao, Yangjiazi Districtin Huludao, Nanpiao District in Huludao and Gongchangling District in Liaoyang.Economic transition for resource-based cities is the key point and the most potentialspring to city development. Therefore, to further push resource-exhausted cities todevelop constantly, it is significant to analyze how economic transition is, evaluate itsresults and deeply analyze transition problems.This thesis takes one of the resource-based cities, Fushun, for instance. First, thisthesis analyzes the process from resource-based city to resource-exhausted one,including the boom in economy in Fushun and the formation of resource-exhaustedFushun, and also explain necessity and feasibility of Fushun economic transformation.Second, the thesis makes complicated researches on Fushun economy transformationunderstandable using literature review methods, comparative analytical methods,qualitative and quantitative researching methods. Additionally, the thesis reports Fushun’s economic situation and its status in Liaoning Province from five aspects–economic development scale, Fushun’s environment, people’s living conditions,foreign economy and trade and tourism industry through lots of examples, data andstatistics. Third, the thesis demonstrates some problems on economic transformation.For example, the imbalance of industrial economic development leads to small output;the traditional industries with high percentages are thoroughly dependent on resources;Fushun lags behind in new and high technology as well as products in high technology;the third industry develops slowly; ecological environment is destroyed and would berecovered in a long term. Last but not least, to solve the above-mentioned questions,the thesis proposes some relevant suggestions and resolutions. They are as follows:proactively conducting industrial transition to fine chemical industry; stronglydeveloping tourism industry and conducting the third industry transformation;strengthening basic construction and improving investment environment; thoroughlyimproving living conditions as well as successfully transit to well-off society; makingbig efforts to improve environmental protection and transforming to the ecological city.Obviously, the thesis explained its advantages when showing Fushun tourismdevelopment. Most importantly, the thesis gives creative suggestions and ideas forreferences in creating tourism brand in Fushun.
