For a long time, the view of “maximizing shareholder’s interest” has guidedenterprises’ behavior. In the last several years, problems of environment pollutionand food safety have been frequently occurring, but the companies have not realizedthe importance of their social responsibilities. At the same time, the citizens began tourge enterprises fulfill their multi-style social responsibilities when they focused theinterests of shareholders only. Now, in China, the company managers shouldrealize that the development of enterprises can not merely to pursuit the economicinterests, they’d better consider the interests of stakeholders in all aspects if thecompany want to develop comprehensively. With the rapid growth of the marketeconomic globalization, the way of company competition has been changed from justrelying on market to the interests of shareholders and the mode of competition haschanged to initiatively undertaking a series of corresponding social responsibilities.The traditional requirements of cost and quality haven’t been able to determine thecompetitiveness of enterprises. So the rate and effect of taking the corporate socialresponsibility have become a critical factor to a company’s development and success.In the theoretical part, this paper aiming to clarify the relationship betweensocial responsibility and corporate competitiveness on the basis of carding thetheory of CSR and enterprise competitiveness, then, to explore how CSR istransformed into the enterprise competitiveness, to illustrate the transformationmechanism and evolvement regular pattern, which laid the groundwork for thelater studies. Finally, index system of social responsibility and competitive power isconstructed, and sample data of listed food manufacturing and processing companiesfrom Shenzhen and Shanghai was adopted to make empirical analysis. Then thisarticle came to the conclusion: there was a positive correlation between CSR andshareholders, government, creditors; the responsibilities to employees didn’t have significant irrelevance to enterprises competitiveness; the responsibilities toconsumers had a negative relevance to enterprises competitiveness. Finally, the paperresearch the case study of Mengniu Group, based on the results, this paper broughtup some recommendations on improving corporate social responsibility.
