In the 1970 s, with the vigorous development of the women’s liberation movement, on the one hand, more and more female members participated in group activities, then the sex structure of the members in the organization presented a diversified trend, so traditional male-dominated organization behavior model was no longer applicable. As a result, managers began to study the effect of gender differences on organizational performance. In the organization, on the other hand, the quantity of women’s leadership increased gradually, and the gender combination of organizational leaders and members existed objectively, charging on the traditional management mode of men. However the current study about the gender combination between leaders and members of is relatively rare. The purpose of the study is mainly to explore the influence between gender composition of team leaders and members, the leader-members exchange relationship and team performance; and discuss the leader-members exchange level differences influenced by different gender combination; and the moderating effect of team leaders and members gender combination on the relationship between leader-member exchange and team performances. Based on this, the research is primarily divided into three stages:the first stage is the literature review and the normative analysis, based on the theory of predecessors, and the study uses normative analysis to construct the theoretical model, making the LMX as dependent variable and the team performance as the outcome variables, at the same time, regarding gender combination as moderating variable. The second stage is questionnaire investigation phase, by the means of leaders matching with subordinate members, in which the team supervisors assess a random subordinates’team performance, providing their demographic characteristics and organizational nature and scale, in the meantime the corresponding subordinates participate in the evaluation of leader-member exchange relationship, providing the demographic characteristics of themselves. The third stage is the data analysis phase, through the SPSS software, and the study makes an empirical analysis of survey data to verify the research hypothesis in theoretical model. The main conclusions of the empirical study:(1) Leader-member exchange level has a significant influence on team performance, and different dimensions of LMX and overall level of LMX have significantly positive prediction to team performance.(2) LMX level with different gender combination between team leaders and members exists significant differences, and the LMX level of homogenous gender combination (male leaders-male members and female leaders-female members) show no significant differences, on the contrary, in the heterogeneous sex combinations, the LMX level of male leaders-female members is higher than that of female leaders-male members.(3) Different gender combination between team leaders and members have a significant influence on team performance, as well as homogenous gender combination and heterogeneous gender combination have the positive prediction to team performance.(4) Different gender combination between team leaders and members play a moderating role on the relationship between LMX level and team performance.Based on moderating effect of gender combination, this study focuses on the influence between leaders-members exchange relationship and team performance. On the basis of the existing research, the innovation of this study mainly reflects on the following three aspects:Firstly, this research mainly discusses the outcome variables influencing on the leaders-members exchange relationship from the team level (team performance), which has a great significance on developing the team-members exchange (TMX) theory. Secondly, the research introduces gender combination as moderating variable to discuss the outcome variables influencing on the leaders-members exchange relationship, which enrich the regulating effect theory of LMX. Thirdly, the study investigates the relationship between leader-member exchange level and team performance from the angle of gender combination, which innovatively chooses demographic variables as study areas, enriching the Chinese existing organizational behavior and human resource management theory, making suggestions to enhance team performance and by gender combination to improve the LMX level.
