China has opened up the financial industry by the end of 2006, so that the competitions between all domestic commercial banks have intensified. And there are still some gaps about the non-performing loan ratio and profitability between domestic commercial banks and foreign advanced banks. All of these problems require domestic banks to improve their competitiveness in order to compete with foreign banks. Our banks need to improve their level of performance appraisal so as to improve their competitiveness. And it plays a significant role for domestic commercial banks to improve their level of performance appraisal.With the reform of China’s financial system, its banking sector is facing some new rules and challenges. Paying more attention to internal management is the only way for our banks to improve the core competitiveness and to cope with the outside complex competitive environment. Human resource management plays a very important role in the internal management, and the employee performance appraisal is the most important guarantee for human resource management. After years of development and reform, Wuxi Rural Commercial Bank still face a problem about how to set up a staff performance appraisal system to meet the bank’s development needs, to reflect the value of staff by a scientific and rational performance appraisal, to improve the motivation and efficiency of employees, to promote business development, and to create the greatest benefits for all employees. And exploring a scientific and reasonable performance evaluation system plays a significant role to the development of the bank.This article analyzes the current employee performance appraisal method in China’s commercial banks, and studies on Wuxi Rural Commercial Bank’s method as a case.By means of data collection, interview investigation, I introduce the current way of the performance appraise and analyze its reasons and problems. Together with drawing lessons from advanced business thoughts and assessment methods, I combine multiple ideas of modern assessment methods to improve the existing evaluation methods, standards, thoughts, structures and processes. The improved performance appraise has clearly stated the duties of the division and evaluation standard, which is established to motivate staff work enthusiasm. And at the same time the improved performance appraise will be applied in daily management to motivate employees performance. As a result, it improves the effectiveness of the bank internal management so that Wuxi Rural Commercial Bank will also enjoy the steady and rapid development.I hope that this article’s content and methods can provide reference on the construction and improvement of the performance appraisal system to Wuxi Rural Commercial Bank and other banking institutions. And I also hope this article will enhance and improve the internal operation management of commercial banks.
