Software industry is a technology-based and knowledge-intensive industry. Product research and development capabilities largely determine company’s market competitiveness. However, the rapid development of global economic integration enables the variability of software diversity and market demand increasingly significant, which has brought new challenges to the new product development of software industry.GC has a leading position in the developer tools market of the software industry and has R&D team in many countries and regions. In recent years, global virtual team has been a very common form to conduct a joint product development. As a premise, the sharing of knowledge among the team members no doubt play an important role in the R&D project. However, this new work mode under cross-regional and cross-cultural backgrounds to share knowledge among team members brought a lot of negative factors. Meanwhile, it has also been a big challenge to motivate the experienced employees acquired from company’s overseas M & A.This paper firstly introduces the GC’s industry background, history and development of overseas mergers. The problem of virtual teams faced in knowledge sharing has been described, followed by the reviews of knowledge management, cross-cultural communication theory, virtual teams and project management. Depth interviews with relevant R & D members, team leaders and managers are conducted. Through comprehensive interviews and analysis, this work found that lack of organizational incentives, barriers to cross-cultural communication and weaknesses in project management processes are currently the main factors hinder the effectiveness of knowledge sharing system. To solve these problems, author re-designed the knowledge sharing system of virtual team from the organization incentives, team building and project management, and proposed specific methods and ideas to the improvement of these factors. Finally, the results of the study are summarized, and suggestions of the specific implementation on re-designed knowledge-sharing system are provided.
