This paper analyzes the current status and challenges faced by firms in the mining and mineral industries in China and when they seek overseas expansions. Through a case analysis of Chinalco’s acquisition of Rio Tinto Group, I describe the risks associated with Chinese firms’ overseas mergers and acquisitions(M&As) transactions. I then analyze the characteristics of Chinese gold companies and their overseas M&A strategies. Lastly, I offer suggestions on the policies governing the efficiency and feasibility of overseas M&A transactions by Chinese mining and mineral companies. |
