An Analysis On Overseas Mergers And Acquisitions Strategies For Chinese Mining Companies

This paper analyzes the current status and challenges faced by firms in the mining and mineral industries in China and when they seek overseas expansions. Through a case analysis of Chinalco’s acquisition of Rio Tinto Group, I describe the risks associated with Chinese firms’ overseas mergers and acquisitions(M&As) transactions. I then analyze the characteristics of Chinese gold companies and their overseas M&A strategies. Lastly, I offer suggestions on the policies governing the efficiency and feasibility of overseas M&A transactions by Chinese mining and mineral companies.
