| As a new economic formation after its maturation phase as part of the third industry, exhibition economy has been going through rapid development globally. In China, its activeness has also fostered itself into a new economic growth point in many regions and especially in cities. As a pioneer in China’s exhibition industry, Guangzhou has been promoting the local economy with its steady scale enlargement in recent years. 2014 is the year for the 116 th Canton Fair to be held in Guangzhou, which enjoys the highest exhibition standard in China and has contributed greatly to the development of Guangzhou’s exhibition industry. However, China’s fast economic growth and the increasingly tense competition domestically and internationally have both brought fierce challenges to Guangzhou’s exhibition industry.Based on theories of exhibition economy, this dissertation explores the existing problems in the current development of Guangzhou’s exhibition economy with reference to the different characteristics and patterns of the more developed Germany and Hong Kong, aiming to draw experiences from these two successful cases to inspire Guangzhou. The final part of the dissertation goes to a proposal for macro-level, practical and supportive countermeasures to the identified problems, specifically including six aspects like perfecting exhibition management system, advancing exhibition industry system and promoting the competitiveness of exhibition enterprises. Hopefully, this dissertation can provide some insights and guidance to the continuing development of Guangzhou’s exhibition economy. |
