With the continuous adjustment and upgrading of the industrial structure of our country, more and more young rural labor force flows into the city to work. Those young rural labor force were called new-generation peasant workers (NGPW for short in the following). Due to their relatively low human capital level and the limited employment structures, they have some difficulties in urban employment and integration into the city. Improving their employability has been a necessary approach to solve employment problems. Owing to the limitation in educational cost and opportunity, more and more peasant workers improve themselves by taking vocational education. In this context, the effect of vocational education on the improvement of employability was studied in this work.In this work, on the basis of the investigation on the characteristic and status of the employability of NGPW, the factors that affected the employability were analyzed. On the basis of both education resources allocation theory and human capital theory, the role of vocational education in the improvement of the employability of NGPW was discussed by the comparison of different types of education, including general and vocational educations, or secondary and higher vocational educations. The questionnaire survey on 241 NGPW from different profession like construction and catering industries was conducted. By the method of principal component and multiple comparison analysis, the data obtained from questionnaire survey was subject to the empirical analysis for the establishment of the employability system of NGPW, including individual adaptability, career identity, social capital, human capital, and psychological capital and the weight of each factor in determining the employability of NGPW. The difference in the employability of NGPW caused by different types or levels vocational education was also investigated. The concrete methods to strengthen the role of vocational education in improving the employability of NGPW were proposed from two aspects, namely external supports form government and society and internal improvement of new-generation rural workers. The conclusions were as followings. By comparison of general and vocational educations regarding the training type, scale and level, and the actual education cost and demand, taking vocational education is a better choice for the improvement of their employability of NGPW. There are obvious differences for the NGPW with or without taking the vocational education, and for the NGPW taking secondary or higher education. But little difference was indicated for NGPW taking general or vocational education. The drawbacks of the employability of NGPW were mainly expressed by the lower degree of education, lower social status, and lack of responsibility. In terms of the money and faculty investment in vocational education from the government and the self-improvement of NGPW, the proper suggestions were proposed for the improvement of the employability of NGPW, attempting to help the NGPW upgrade their profession and successfully integrate into the city.
